COURSE DESCRIPTION:
No pain, no gain, they say. What happens when corneal nerves don’t feel? In a case-based format, this talk covers the course of poor healing corneas due to neurotrophic keratitis. Early stages to advanced stages, and how optometrists have a crucial role to play, will be discussed. This lecture was recorded in July 2025 at our Victoria BC Conference.

- Learners will be able to recognize the early clinical signs of neurotrophic keratitis
- Apply appropriate staging methods
- Evaluate treatment options ranging from conservative to surgical interventions

Getting to know our speakers
Sophia Leung, OD, FCCSO, Dipl ABO, Dipl AAO
Dr. Leung has been involved in leadership throughout his career and has been a council member of the Alberta Association of Optometrists since 2015. Active in the profession internationally, Dr. Leung is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry in the Anterior Segment Section, the first Albertan and Canadian to do so.
Dr. Leung is passionate about collaboration and education. She is a local and international speaker and is also an award-winning published author, contributing to journals, posters, and textbooks. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Leung enjoys live music, supporting local restaurants, and spending time with friends and family. She also enjoys staying active with rowing, running, and squash.
