COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will review some of the new technologies, medications, and philosophies utilized in the treatment and management of glaucoma. Using case examples, attendees will be able to discuss issues related to determining when to treat, when to use medication versus surgery, and how to improve patient compliance.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES:


·         Provide a greater understanding of the disease process and identification

·         Discuss the traditional treatments of glaucoma

·         Introduce a recently FDA-approved pharmaceutical treatment option

·         Review the indications for glaucoma surgery, latest treatments, and which treatment options are best for different glaucoma case presentations

·         Review peri-operative considerations and management

Walt Whitley, OD, MBA, FAAO

Dr. Walt Whitley is Director of Professional Relations and Education at Virginia Eye Consultants in Norfolk, VA, and Regional Medical Director for Eyecare Partners, LLC. He specializes in ocular surface disease, glaucoma, surgical co-management, and clinical research. 

A graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry, Dr. Whitley serves as Chair-Elect of the PUCO Advisory Council. He is co-chief medical editor of Modern Optometry and a contributing editor for Review of Optometry. He has been recognized by the Virginia Optometric Association as Young Optometrist of the Year (2012), Legislative Keyperson of the Year (2015), and Optometrist of the Year (2020).
