COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides an in-depth understanding of omega-3 benefits for eye and brain
health, covering ALA, EPA, DHA differences, dry eye treatment, retinal health, DHA types, brain
recovery, dementia prevention, and omega-3 side effects.
- Attendees will learn about the differences between ALA, EPA, and DHA omega-3 fatty acids, including their sources, conversion rates, and specific roles in the different tissues in the body.
- Attendees will review the benefits of omega-3s for eye health, particularly in treating dry eye and promoting retinal health, along with the bioavailability of different types of DHA in neural tissues.
- Attendees will understand the role of DHA in brain health, focusing on its importance in brain injury recovery and dementia prevention, as well as the potential side effects and safe supplementation practices of omega-3s.

Dr. Jacqueline Theis
Dr. Jacqueline Theis is an optometrist with
residency training in neuro-optometry, pediatrics, and vision therapy. She
specializes in managing patients with visual complaints due to brain injury,
stroke, neurological disease, and developmental conditions.
She previously served as Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Berkeley and as the founding Chief of the UC Berkeley Sports Vision and Concussion Clinic. Later,
she advanced concussion and neuro-optometric care at Kaiser Permanente in
Northern California.
An internationally recognized expert, Dr. Theis is known for her pioneering work in oculomotor dysfunction and prismatic correction of double vision. She lectures internationally, consults on healthcare policy, and participates in multi-university clinical research. She has been honored as Young Optometrist of the Year by both the California and Virginia Optometric Associations.
