COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will explore the viewpoint that in the US, glaucoma disease is overdiagnosed and over-treated, and carries a potential negative impact on patients and the healthcare system.  A second controversy is the utilization of complementary and alternative treatments.  Clinical evidence and recent publications will be reviewed for each topic.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

·         Understand the definitions and concepts of overdiagnosis and over-treatment.

·         Be familiar with specific negative impacts on patients and healthcare.

·         Recognize the evidence supporting meditation and mindfulness in lowering IOP and managing glaucoma.
