COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course will use a series of case presentations of individuals who have ocular hypertension, identified as glaucoma suspects, or diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma, which will be discussed. The diagnosis and management options will be described, and why one was selected as compared to others will be discussed. When therapy should be started, how to select medications or surgical modalities, what the target IOP should be, and how to follow individuals over time will be among the topics discussed.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
  • Recognize the signs of early glaucoma damage.
  • Discuss the most important risk factors associated with the development of glaucoma.
  • Understand the methods used to treat primary open-angle glaucoma.
  • Understand the concept of selecting a target IOP as therapy is begun.
  • Understand when surgery is considered for initial therapy.
