COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This presentation examines a case of unilateral red eye exhibiting both anterior and posterior segment inflammation, coupled with a visual field defect. The course explores systemic and neurological differentials and recommended testing for these findings. This course was recorded at our NW Residents Conference in June 2026.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• Develop a systematic diagnostic approach to red eye with systemic inflammation involvement by integrating anterior segment findings, neuro-ophthalmic exam, and appropriate imaging and lab work.

• Differentiate causes of optic nerve edema by comparing clinical findings, OCT trends, visual field defects, laboratory testing, and neuroimaging to distinguish papilledema, NAION, AION, and optic neuritis.

• Recognize the ocular manifestations of systemic and infectious diseases, including Amyloidosis and Herpes Zoster Ophthalmicus, and apply evidence-based management strategies for recurrent inflammation.
