Co-Management: When to Collaborate with Ophthalmologists
COPE #93128-GOEvent #129093
Expiration Date: 8/20/2027
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Co-managing with Ophthalmologists is a critical role in our profession and something we should be extremely comfortable with managing. Knowing what to co-manage and how urgently is an important part of our profession in order to best serve our patients. It is also important that we understand that we shouldn’t always refer to ophthalmology. As optometrists, we are capable of managing a majority of conditions and should take initiative to take on some difficult cases.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
● Differentiate between progressive and stable anterior segment conditions and know when to refer to an ophthalmologist.
● Identify benign versus malignant ocular surface growths and understand appropriate referral procedures, including recent treatment advancements.
● Recognize urgent optic nerve health issues and refer appropriately for specialized evaluation and management.
