Course Description:
Nutrition and diet are something that we know are important for our entire body, but how familiar are we with the specifics of how it affects the ocular system? We will discuss the impact of nutrition in regard to both the anterior and posterior segments of the eye as well as venture into the inner workings of our brain in relation to our visual system. We will also the problems that can occur to our patients when there is too much or too little of specific vitamins and minerals.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
• Identify the importance of nutrition to ocular health.
• Identify the most important vitamins to ocular health
• Recognize the ocular risks associated with vitamin/nutrition deficits
• Recognize common ocular diseases that can be associated with certain vitamin deficiencies.
• Identify the risks associated with vitamin deficiency and toxicity to ocular health.

Dr. Cecelia Koetting
Dr. Koetting practices at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in the Department of Ophthalmology in Denver, CO. Her primary focus is in anterior segment and ocular surface disease, neuro-optometry, and peri-operative care. She partakes in clinical research and has served Externship Director and adjunct faculty for several schools and colleges of optometry.
Dr. Koetting is a member of Intrepid, a fellow in the American Academy of Optometry, a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, an active member of AOA and has served as both local and state officers within AOA. She was named young Optometrist of the year by the state of Virginia. Dr. Koetting lectures locally, nationally and internationally at conferences, continually contributes articles to and serves on editorial board for multiple publications.
