COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will explore diabetes as a public health concern, how diabetes can manifest in the anterior segment of the eye, and management of these patients.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- To learn general statistics of diabetes in the United States
- To identify some potential lid presentations in a diabetic patient
- To identify some potential conjunctival presentations in a diabetic patient
- To identify some potential iris, ciliary body, and pupil presentations in a diabetic patient
- To identify some potential lens presentations in a diabetic patient
- To identify some potential corneal presentations in a diabetic patient
- To identify some potential corneal nerve complications in a diabetic patient
- To learn about corneal confocal microscopy as a helpful tool to assess corneal nerves
- To identify some potential complications with the pre-corneal tear film in a diabetic patient
- To learn how to manage these patients and conditions
