COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The first half of this course we will present a case study outlining examination and management techniques for patients with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD); including therapy guidelines for improving visual perception and awareness in children with ASD. The second half of this course will discuss the correlation between learning related vision problems and ADHD. How to identify learning related visual issues in children with ADHD and how to approach VT.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
• Recognize the barriers to care currently present for individuals with ASD
• Describe ways to reduce barriers of care for individuals with ASD
• Explain the importance of annual optometric care for individuals with ASD
• By the end of this presentation, an individual will be able to identify learning related visual problems in school aged children
• By the end of this presentation, an individual will be able to explain why children who are diagnosed with ADHD can benefit from Vision Therapy and how to approach VT.
• By the end of this presentation, an individual will be able to appreciate the correlation between learning related visual problems and ADHD how to manage the patient's function of vision and a collaborative approach with other providers.
