COURSE DESCRIPTION:


This course will detail and update the audience on seven cutting edge topics in ophthalmic surgery. Sub-topics included are toric IOLs, multifocal IOLs, light adjusted lenses (LALs), selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGs), corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) and laser vitreolysis.



LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

• To review up-to-date data on some more common anterior segment surgeries.

• To review IOL selection process for cataract surgery including toric IOLs, MF IOLs, and light adjustable lenses (LALs).

• To review expected pre-and post op findings for patients undergoing the interior segment procedures outlined.

Dr. Ami Halvorson

Ami Halvorson is a graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry. She then went onto complete a residency at the Portland VA medical center. Upon completion, she entered academia and was assistant professor of optometry and a clinic director for Pacific University for five years and concurrently earned her fellow within the American Academy of Optometry. Currently, Ami works for Pacific Cataract and Laser Institute or PCLI—a co-management surgical center. In addition to her clinical role, she also serves as editor of OD News, a quarterly newsletter that is sent to PCLI’s referral network. She has lectured many hours on various topics throughout the Pacific NW.  Additionally, she serves on the Oregon Board of Optometry and is an active member of Oregon Optometric Physician’s association. In her spare time, you can find Ami climbing mountains of the PNW. She enjoys spending time with her husband Kirk and two children, Henry and Hilde.
